Ah, summer camp! There’s a childhood memory for many people. Each year, SON-Life Camp reaches out to children ages six through 17 and convinces them (or their parents) that a week a summer camp is a great investment in their character and spiritual life.
The theme for 2012 is “whatever,” based on Philippians 4:8. Since this verse talks about what you “think on,” we used a thought-bubble theme (you can read more about that choice here).
The brochure continued the logo theme, using the bubbles as containers for images and information. Using a grid is key to delivering this much information, yet the bubbles helped bring a free-form energy to the piece, which keeps it visually interesting to the kids we’re trying to entice.
Because the camp is rustic and outdoor-sy (intentionally), we chose a textured, cream background. Past brochures have had a dominant color background and been printed on coated paper. This year, we wanted to create a dramatic visual difference from previous years, yet white was too inauthentic to the natural environment. The flecked, uncoated stock creates a very tactile experience and the light background ties into the theme of thoughts and thought bubbles (airy, floating, cerebral).
