“We will help you take the next steps you need in life.” That was the “brand promise” given to me by a church ready to relaunch itself. “We’re a place where people can connect with people and God and not have to be religious.”
While a literal logo can sometimes be predictable, we choose to represent an actual stone because it captures the essence of their brand promise. Their community also is motivated by personal improvement, fulfillment and individual progress; there’s a get-ahead, get-moving connotation with the idea of stepping.
The client also requested an icon that could stand alone, separate from the word mark. I think that’s always a wise solution.
